I\u2019m Jana (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-hDCq6GwH0E&amp;t=5s\">\ud83c\udfb5<\/a>). Between working as a data scientist and running a longform interview series, I spend my days building frameworks for understanding complex questions. The medium changes, but the core principle remains the same: thoughtful inquiry leads to meaningful insight.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m an expert in data-rich systems thinking \u2014 ask me about my doctoral dissertation and I\u2019ll be glad to tell you all about it. What this means is that I\u2019m trained in using statistical models to analyze complex patterns in human behaviour, from how users act to how companies function. Mostly, I work on unstructured problems that lack a clear definition or straightforward solution.<\/p>\n<p>In the past year, I\u2019ve given a talk at MIT and ranked among the top 10% of my peers in academic excellence. A few other recent highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I\u2019m an award-winning scholar whose research has garnered over a quarter of a million dollars in funding from leading institutions across North America &#038; the UK, including the University of Cambridge and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca\/home-accueil-eng.aspx\">SSHRC<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m the founder and host of <a href=\"https:\/\/womenofletters.substack.com\"><em>Women of Letters<\/em><\/a>, a longform interview series featuring in-depth conversations on work, writing, &#038; professional success with the women shaping our cultural landscape. We\u2019re now in our third season.\n<li>I\u2019ve earned a total of four advanced degrees, including a PhD in Information Science and two master\u2019s degrees (an M.S. and an M.A.). My expertise extends across disciplines to yield the unique analytical frameworks which characterize my approach.<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m the developer of <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/jcontd\/airtime\">Airtime<\/a>, an open source Python-based project management tool that uses natural language processing to foster more genuinely collaborative work environments.<\/li>\n<li>I\u2019m the author, together with Miranda Dunham-Hickman, of the forthcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/janajm.com\/deep-literacy-digital-time\">book<\/a> <em>Deep Literacy, Digital Time<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Working with me accelerates growth.
